Please Note: ALL 280K SuperPots are SPLIT-SHAFT. When your order the RS 280K SuperPot, it will ship with a brass sleeve for use with knobs with set screws. All standard USA metal Tele-style knobs will fit over the brass sleeves; knobs with set-screws should accept a 1/4"-inch shaft. Please contact us with any questions or concerns.
These pots are manufactured by CTS specifically for RS Guitarworks who designed the potentiometers to their specs which exceed those of the CTS pots that have been the industry standard for over 40 years with Gibson®, Fender® etc.
The RS Guitarworks SuperPot™ is made with tolerances that are twice as tight as the normal CTS pots used in even the most expensive Strats® etc. The cheap aluminum shaft is replaced with brass for better durability, the target resistance was designated so that the value will never fall below 250k and never exceed 280k.
RS Guitarworks call then 280K. The reason is that a 250K CTS pots very rarely read 250K they are generally in the 230K - 240K range with a small percentage in the 240K to 250K range but very rarely over 250K whereas a 280K Superpot is never below 250K and generally in the 255K - 270K range and that together with the different taper (the value drops off more slowly) means that your volume control works in a far more intuitive way.
RS Guitarworks also specified CTS's old-school heavy carbon resistance path instead of the inferior silk-screening currently used by many other makers and more importantly they custom designed the taper specifically for electric guitar volume controls. The custom taper gives smooth even response throughout the range of motion. You will not experience any steep drop-offs or uneven taper.
RS Guitarworks Superpots use a retaining clip to secure the mechanism together instead of relying on the crimped back cup, this results in a far stronger assembly, easier to turn (lower torque) and even pressure on the carbon resistor.
Together these features represent what is without doubt the ultimate potentiometer for electric guitar applications. These new pots are available in both split and solid shaft to cover most any guitar application where a 250k pot is suitable.
These potentiometers are designed specifically for volume controls. They are not suggested for use as tone controls, our CTS TVT pots are perfectly suited to that purpose.
Please Note: All guitars manufactured in Japan, China, Indonesia and Mexico use metric pots (6mm), and have metric sized holes drilled for the pots. All pots sold by RS Guitarworks use standard pots and hole diameters (3/8"). Therefore, holes in the guitar, plates and/or pickguards will need to be enlarged to 3/8" to fit properly. Also, metric knobs will not fit the RS pot shafts; most popular knobs are available on the store in new and aged versions.
