This deep thread nut with coarse knurled edge is similar to those used on Gibsons in the 1950's is to be used with Switchcraft Long and L shape 3 way toggle switches where the switch passes through the body as the threaded part is not deep enough. This is not required for the short shaft switch where the thread is deep enough.
This will only fit genuine Switchcraft switches and not import toggle switches.
